If you are reading this, you've likely been following the events taking place in Ruidoso. We've been hearing from many folks who love the area and would like to come up. As a town that survives economically via tourism, shops, restaurants and local business owners depend on these very folks doing just that.
But, while we want you to have fun, we also want you to be safe. Fortunately, many visitors are finding they are able to do both.
Here's what you need to know:
We are in monsoon season, which naturally means rain. The only time rain is a concern is when it rains over the burn scar from year's fires. When that happens, there will be some flooding. Typically, the flooding only lasts a short while and is more of an inconvenience than concern. But, there is the potential for it to be bad and when it is, it becomes dangerous very rapidly.
* It does not flood every day.
* On flood days, it tends to be midday. But, not always.
Some strategies you can take to keep yourself safe so you can fully enjoy the Village:
1. Sign up for alerts at: Call Me Ruidoso
2. Familiarize yourself with the information provided on this page.
3. Pay attention to the sky. If dark clouds are rolling in, don't ignore them. Find a safe place to hang out for a while.
4. Make more "set" plans for the morning and evening hours, leaving flexibility for the afternoon when you may have to adjust.
Remember, we want you to be confident that you will be safe, while you're having fun. And, with just a couple of extra steps you can do just that. In fact, you will likely have your best trip ever!
