Everyone knows the Village of Ruidoso is fun! Not everyone knows if it's safe. Fortunately, it is! There is no need to skip your trip or plan it elsewhere. Shops, restaurants and our locals await you with open arms. Here's what you need to know: We are in monsoon season, which naturally means rain. The only time rain is a concern is when it rains over the burn scar from year's fires. When that happens, there will be some flooding. Luckily, there was a lot of mitigation done in anticipation for this. And, it's holding up well. Most of the rushing water videos you may have seen are what would have been flood waters, but are actually being diverted into the river. So, what do you do? How can you still have a blast in the Village during these intermittently wet times? First, remember, they are intermittent. When there is flooding, it generally happens mid day. So, enjoy the mornings and do all the things you typically would. And, if happens to be a day when we are going to get the mid-day rain, plan on settling in somewhere like a great restaurant or pub for lunch. Luckily, the showers tend to come around lunchtime. And, because of the mitigation and fast-acting emergency crews, everything is generally back to status quo in about 30 minutes to 2 hours at which time you resume your activities for that afternoon and evening. It really is as simple as that! It's a good idea to sign up for alerts while you're here, because you will likely be having so much fun you won't notice some extra clouds in the sky. It's very easy to do and you can do that at Call Me Ruidoso. In addition, please have a look at the flyers we have for you and visit the link on the QR code. Remember, we want you to be confident that you will be safe, while you're having fun. And, with just a couple of extra steps you can do just that. In fact, you will likely have your best trip ever! |
