I have pratically grown up in Ruidoso. I have gone there with my family all my life. We have a Cabin in Carrizzo Canyon. I know of no place on Earth I am more at peace with myself and nature than Ruidoso. The place resonates peace and contentment.

Hi! We will be going to Ruidoso for Aspenfest and can't wait. Is there someplace to stay that would be close to the festivities? My husband Sid (or as he went by then, Dale) lived there in the early 60's.He lived on the edge of the Mescalero Apache reservation.

my regular trips, planned and unplanned, are some of the most memorable, profound times in my life. Ruidoso- the culture, the clean, pure beauty of the land and it's people, were my means of finding that inner peace you can sometimes lose. Monjeau Lookout is a favorite. Enjoyed camping, but had a chance to stay at Rancho Ruidoso when it was first being built-awesome. Someday hope to take my children there, stare at the stars, let them feel snow for the first time.

My husband and I are going to Ruidoso for the first time in December between X-mas and New Years. We will be celebrating our anniversary on the 31st. Any suggestions for a romantic spot on New Year's Eve night? We have reservations at the Upper Canyon Lodge. Any comments about staying at the Upper Canyon Lodge?

My family just got back from Ruidoso July 21, 2002, we were there for 10 days. This was the fourth year we made Ruidoso our vacation spot. Needless to say, it was absolutely beautiful. For those of you who have been there, I don't have to tell you, for those of you who haven't, you most certainly are missing out. However, while the area itself is gorgeous, I must warn everyone who may read this about Ruidoso Properties Inc. In addition to being a real estate company, they also claim to be a property "management" company as well. What a joke. Let me tell you about the cabin we rented from them. We rented a cabin in Upper Canyon right on the river. On their website, it's called "River's Edge". Don't get excited folks, it was a dump. It was filthy dirty when we arrived, the pillow cases had mascara marks and spit stains, there was no toilet paper, no bath towels or bath cloths.(We had to pay a $55.00 cleaning fee upon arrival) The gas grill was out of gas. There was no firewood. Now, we were told it was a fully stocked cabin, "all you have to bring is your food" it gets better, I've saved the best for last. We can't forget about the bears that were breaking in, the bears that Ruidoso Properties knew about, repeatedly telling me they would repair the point of entry. That never happened. Ruidoso Properties themselves were unprofessional, rude and most of all. They lied. I will never use their services again.

I first visited your town about 23 years ago. I didn't return until 1999. Since then it's been twice a year. My wife and I plan a trip there in two weeks. This will be the first for this year and we are looking forward to it every day. I love the website. We check it regularly for weather and forest updates. The recent rains and lifting of the fire ban are great news. We can't wait to get there. Great website and great town.

Memories memories memories and more memories!!!!!!! I have been going to Ruidoso since I was 5 yrs old---that's 51 years now. I remember the single dirt road, swinging BAR doors, The real--old FOX CAVE when the old hwy passed at the front door--when it was RUSTIC AND REALLY NEAT,, and where the SPUDNUT DONUT SAT before road was widened. When the SKI AREA WAS AT THE BASE not ate the top. MY Aunts family had a cabin the UPPER CANYON just before the turnaround. I have come back over the years continually--many times not as soon or as often as I would like. BUT NOW I MAKE MY PILGRIMAGE EVERY NOVEMBER---SEE YA LOVE YA. LKD

I lived on the AFB in Roswell in the early 50's with my sister and brother-in-law. I'd always heard from them about the beauty of Ruidoso, and after 30 years I finally got my Husband to agree on vacationing in NM with visits to Ruidoso. We've made three trips there and are both enchanted with the area. It's like a magical magnet. We've now bought land in Loma Grande and will be moving there next Spring.

Oh how I love Ruidoso!! I was raised in El Paso but I've made several trips out to the forest just to get away from the hustle & bustle of the border city. I will always remember watching the sun go down on a nice cool evening and waking up to a crisp fresh morning. Ah yes...and who can forget going down a mountain of snow on a tube? Those were the good ole' days!! We had too much fun!! I also loved taking those long hikes along the streams while throwing rocks in and hearing them go "plop" as they landed in the water. Ruidoso is an awesome place and you can't miss out on taking pictures and surely having the memories that will last a lifetime for the whole family!! Ruidoso....you will never be forgotten!! :)

I just got back from Ruidoso and it was the most beautiful place I have ever been in all my life. White Sands was unbelievable. Words can't even describe it's beauty. The weather was great. My Boyfriend and I are seriously considering moving there to start our family in the next couple years. Too me it is the perfect place to do so. I would definitely recommend Ruidoso as a vacation getaway to anyone and everyone.

I stumbled upon this site while attempting to find out where to stay, what to do in Ruidosa while shopping for rustic furniture. Sounds like quite a place. What could we do for fun while there? "We" are three middle-aged married girlfriends and our version of fun is now limited to Good Food, Good Wine and our own company! Also looks like Story Book Cabins or Dan Dee Cabins might be the place to stay???

March 14th, 2002 was my first time to Ruidoso and we had a great time skiing, drinking at the bars, eating pizza over at Cafe Rio, and blowing our cash at the slots. We stayed at the Eagle Creek Condominiums which we rented through Condotel there in Ruidoso. We loved the condo. I want to thank them for sending me my garment-bag full of clothes which I left there (duh). Thanks Melanie :-)

Wow !! What a beautiful mountain village Ruidoso is. I met great people, had great dinners, visited great bars and just had a great time. We enjoyed walking through the forest and staying at Alto Hombre Gordito. Their hospitality is enormous. Will be back !!

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful Xmas and New Year in Ruidoso. Stayed with friends on Rio St and experienced our first ever "white Xmas". Absolutely loved the town, the area and the people and we hope everyone recovers quickly from the fires we saw on TV back here. Hope to come back one day. All the best.

I want to thank you for how you handled the recent area forest fires. I don't live nearby anymore, but Ruidoso is my "home", and I appreciate how you kept the information accurate and up to date. I was glad for the map too. I've lived through a couple of fires in the area; the fear they generate is as bad as the actual destruction! At least I had the comfort of updated accurate information. I can't tell you how much that meant to me.

I have to agree with Jen. We had reservations at Alto Hombre Gordito. When we got there, the facilities were terrible. It was the biggest case of false advertising I have ever seen. The owners were rude to us when we were attempting to check in. They would not let us see the cabins. We finally said forget it and found another place to stay. Story Book Cabins was fabulous. We rented a house through them that was great. I would recomend them to anyone.

I wanted to let people know about a place that I would recommend people NOT to stay when visiting Ruidoso. It is called Ruidoso Lodge Cabins. While trying to stop and just meet some friends staying there and then go on to get our ski rentals we were cursed and yelled at to get in our car and leave. The man that did this was the man running the cabins "Kurt Izzy". He then threatened to kick our friends out of the cabin for having someone to just meet in front of the cabin then leave from there.

Ruidoso is a little slice of heaven. I am now 20 years old, and have been going to Ruidoso since I was born. My grandmother who is in the Race Horse Hall of Fame in Ruidoso, raced horses there all of her life. I loved going to the races, and standing in the winners circle wasn't so bad either. We own a condo at Lookout Estates there in Ruidoso, which holds most of my childhood memories. Ski Apache is the best ski resort on earth! Ski rentals and lift passes are extremely cheap, and there are no long lift lines to stand in unlike Toas or Angelfire. The town is the definition of beautiful, and the townspeople are more than wonderful when it comes to welcoming guest and new residence. I recently became paralyzed in a car accident, but I will be skiing again this March of 2002. I will be bringing along several of my college friends to share one of my most cherished places and create one of many unforgetable memories. As a child,I lived in Las Cruces from 85-89. My family would always take trips to Ruidoso and Cloudcroft. Some of my fondest memories have been from there. I can still remember being scared of the drives up Sierra Blanca though:o) I havn't been to Ruidoso since 1993, but hope to return there this December. Im on vacation in Sacramento, and just returned from a drive to Lake Tahoe. In my opinion, Tahoe still doesn't compare to Ruidoso. Ruidoso just has this magic Tahoe doesn't have.

Ruidoso has been a family vacation area all of my life as well as my fathers. I miss it, wish there was more of a need for legal secretaries there. Great place to raise a family. (and it isn't hot like Texas!)

Will be visiting for the first time in late October for a healing retreat. Wanted to find out about the area as I love NM. Many of our famous Colorado race horses run the circuit in Ruidoso and I want to see where they call home for half the year. I especially love the Quarter Horse races! Hope to have time to at least find my bearings and come back another trip too.

Dear people from Ruidoso, I came in your city last year and this year. I really enjoyed it. You are lucky to live there. I'd like to become a cowgirl, and in your county it became true. Thank you. I also wanted to tell hello to the Native american of the Mountain of Gods.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to live there for a year. We both worked for Chief Maddox At R.P.D. It was the best year of our lives. It really was as enjoyable living there as it was to visit. It became, and still is, Home. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to, like move back to Texas. We will return.

I am looking for a place to stay with my two young children (who have never seen snow) Dec. 20-23, 2001. We would love to rent a cabin that has trees and play area around it, that is also close to the ski resort and downtown. Please email me with any information that you may have. We just want to come and play in the snow before Christmas! Any activity suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

In our business we do alot of outside work. We were really tired of the hot weather so we loaded up the kids and were headed to Sante Fe. We took a break in Ruidoso and just fell in love with it. The climate is great and the people so friendly. Never made it to Sante Fe. We ended up buying some property. Can't wait to go back in Sept., and for Thanksgiving. If you have any info. on reasonable cabin rates, please let me know. Can't wait to return.

Through the internet we found a divine little cabin and reservations have been made, all we have to do now is wait for another of those wonderful memories to start. Thank you so much for this site, and thank you for the local people that have always been so nice and make this such a wonderful place to come back to when we need a little "time off" from the real world.

Was in Ruidoso back in the early 80's ... Loved the town and have many memories. I was bartending at a local bar that was a landmark for years. They were going to close the bar after years of this being the "local joint" It was a party to remember. They locked the owner in the bathroom and put the pool table in front of the door so he could not get out. Then everyone drank up the beer and booze and took something from the bar as a token of its memory. I can't even remember the bars name and I was a bartender there for a short while. Anyone who was there, let me know.... Also looking for Annette Lopez. Anyone know her or where she is? Planning to come back to Ruidoso for a trip and what a trip it will be. I have not been there in 20 years.

My partner and i recently spent three months in the states and Ruidoso was an unexpected stop and an unexpected surprise. I never imagined you'd get scenery that lush in New Mexico. The views on the way to the Apache Ski school are amazing. New Mexico ended up being one of our favourite states - all weave to do now is save another fortune for another long trip.

Hello all, I had the opportunity to go to Ruidoso about twice a year from 1963-1985, then my grandparents Albert (Ab) and Benita Gunter moved to Indy. I family/friends will be in Ruidoso for Christmas this year. We're looking forward to skiing, shopping etc.. I've been to Ruidoso several times and bragged so much my friends want a taste. Man I can't wait, the beautiful mountains, silence with alpine trees swaying with the wind and snow (i hope) piled around the jacuzzi. That is living good. I just hope we don't break any bones skiing.

Hi everybody, I attended Ruidoso High in 1993 (class of ´93) as a foreign exchange student. Now on a coincidence I found this side and thought maybe someone can remember me. If anybody who knows me reads this, just send me a mail. I´d like to hear fronm some people of the class and some teachers. Some teachers I can remember are Mr. Bacca, Coach Wright, Mr. Avalos and others. I know this is not really the place to contact those people, but I don´t have any adresses or mails. I lived with the Hoffers in the Ruidoso Downs and befor that I lived with the LaCounts (Chris used to be the Director of the School Cafeteria). I guess their son (Brandon) should be at High School by now, if he didn´t skip some classes. It would be great to hear from some of you guys!!!! ;-)))

I grew up in Lubbock, and my dad used to take the family to Ruidoso every summer for a week. That was in the 40's and 50's. We'd get a small cabin in the pines, climb the hills and wade in the river. One summer, we went to see "The Thing (from another world)" and then had to go back to the cabin in the dark. Didn't sleep a wink all night. The last time I was there was 1955, but I've never stopped thinking about that wonderful place. One way or another, I'm going to visit there at least once more. If I don't make it, I made my daughter promise to scatter my ashes there when I die. To this day, the smell of pine needles takes me back to those pleasant summer days.

We have been going to Ruidosa every summer just before school starts to enjoy the wonderful climate after facing the heat of Texas. It is an extended vacation for us and we enjoy being able to run over to Cloudcroft which is closeby. We will definitely be back and we always reccommed to family and friends that it is a wonderful place to visit.

We love your beautiful country and will be looking for property.. possibly already built, in the Nogal area. We need at least five acres and preferably a barn with at least four stalls. Have traveled the world and know of no other place we would rather be! Steve and Nancie

My husband and I had our honeymoon in Ruiodosa in April 12,1997. I had never been ther before and my husband to be said it was the best place on earth. Come to find out he had relatives that had made Ruiodosa their homestead and still had family land out there. My father-in-law owns a few acres out there and we camped on it for a couple of nights. The stars where just amazing. It is such a peaceful town with friendly people. We are now hoping to purchase the land from our father and build our home out there some day. I would love to raise our kids in the beautiful country and get out of these big cities, where the lights consume the stars. We are planning our next trip in Dec. 2001. We have never been there around Christmas and hope to enjoy all the festivities this wonder place has to offer. God bless everyone and I pray that everyone on this earth can enjoy the peace that Ruiodosa has to offer.

We had planned on passing through there on our way to the northern part of the state, but ended up spending the last 3 days we had in Ruidoso, we just fell in love with it! Now we are anxiously making preperations to move our family there, and we can't wait!

We will actually be visiting our favorite mountain town, Ruidoso, this weekend and couldn't be more excited to see our favorite hangouts...Ruidoso Roastery for Guatemala Huehuetenango and Cafe Rio for a little slice of pizza. We will be coming back to celebrate the wedding of Kammy and Troy Landavazo and of course we will visit the land we purchased and hope to build our dream house on in the future. Ruidoso we can't wait to see you!!!

Could'nt stand it any longer. Finally closed on a piece of mountain ground about as close to heaven I'll ever get while I'm on earth. Anyway I hope to build shortly and if any of you guys will be kind enough to read my book on amazon.com I may be able to build sooner. My book is titled Three Babes in the Woods, a murder mystery that is about 80 percent true. It begins naturally with the three babes who were in 1934. Thanks ahead of time. David Danner

My Wife, Renate, and I visited Ruidoso 4-6 March this year for the third or fourth time. We stayed at a friend's condo and marvelled at the view of the Sierra Blanca. The weather was sunny and cool, and we exhilarated in breathing the fresh, mountain air into our lungs. The surrounding beauty, people, and atmospheric conditions will draw us back this summer for a longer stay.

For the last 3 years we have had a group leave TX the Thursday before the All American on Labor Day weekend. We have fallen in love with the beauty and diversity of the town. While our husbands were team roping, the women shopped downtown and then we all went to the casinos each evening. On Labor Day we went to the races and back to a beautiful condo we rented. We look forward to another group heading that way this year!
