This summer, Fort Stanton celebrates 150 years of continued service to New Mexico and the United States with four events culminating with
Fort Stanton Live!
August 13, 2005, at 9a.m.

Fort Stanton is located on Highway 220 in Lincoln County (near Ruidoso), New Mexico.
This year’s event is dedicated to the late Keith Green, former editor of Ruidoso News and member of Fort Stanton Development Commission.
The public is invited to watch cavalry, infantry and artillery drills and visit with U.S. Army officers and enlisted men at garrison camps. Saturday, August 13th events on the quadrangle will include dances by Native Americans, Chautauqua performances by Lydia Lane, an 1850’s resident, and
a uniform and rifle demonstration by an infantry solider.
Do not miss the men’s and women’s Fashion Show with the Friends of Fort Selden giving detailed descriptions of period attire. Listen to authentic 1880s piano and view a demonstration
of authentic spinning techniques by Lincoln County spinners.

You will not want to miss the blacksmith with his forge. The Tactical Units will set up their camp on Friday, August 12th and visit with the public during Fort Stanton Live! on August 13th.
The Civil War Tactical will culminate with a mock battle on Sunday, August 14th at 12 noon in the field adjoining the fort. Join the ladies of White Oaks in wearing your best period attire and get into the spirit of the Fort’s 150th anniversary.
