While the flooding of the Rio Ruidoso through the center of the Village of Ruidoso on July 26/27th created havoc with businesses along the river and stranded vacationers in remote campgrounds, most of the Ruidoso, New Mexico resort community was left a bit soggy, but undamaged and open for business.

The majority of the damage took place along low-lying areas of the Rio Ruidoso River , with part of the Upper Canyon area affected as well.  The lower portion of the Upper Canyon did not sustain significant damage but there was damage to the 2nd bridge.   The Upper Canyon is open for business.

Town is open and is largely unaffected with 95% of Ruidoso having no obvious impact from the heavy rain.  The flooding has some area bridges and roads closed but the areas NOT located on the river are largely unaffected.

The Ruidoso Downs Race Track received heavy flooding but damage is repairable and racing resumed on Saturday, August 2nd.

Most area lodges, cabins and hotels are open for business as usual.

Lincoln National Forest officials have closed a few areas of the Smokey Bear Ranger District, due to flood related damage and associated hazards. This includes areas that are north of U.S 70 and west of NM State Highways 48 and 37. There is one localized road closure, Forest Road 9038D north of NM State 380, in the general vicinity of lower Salazar Canyon. There will be an exception to this closure area, the Cedar Creek area where developed Forest Service recreation facilities will remain open, namely the Fitness Trail, Cedar Creek Picnic Area and Pavilion, and Sam Tobias Group Campgrounds 1, 2, and 3. The remaining portion of the Smokey Bear Ranger District that are general north of State Highway 380 and east of Ruidoso will remain open.

Some area bridges are closed so there may be short detours.  Impact will be minimal in most areas.

Heavy rain from the remnants of Hurricane Dolly has caused flooding and forced evacuations of about 500 residents and tourists from homes, campgrounds and RV parks on Sunday.  Over 6 inches of rain fell Saturday night into Sunday morning.  The Rio Ruidoso went over its banks about midnight.

Town is open and is largely unaffected.  95% of Ruidoso has no obvious impact from the heavy rain.  Several low areas along the Rio Ruidoso experienced significant flooding.  Part of the extreme Upper Canyon was impacted.  The flooding has washed out some area bridges and roads.  The areas not located on the river are largely unaffected.  The lower portion of the Upper Canyon did not sustain damage or flooding and is open.

The Ruidoso Downs Race Track received heavy flooding and is currently closed.  Updates from the track indicates that they are optimistic that they will reopen by next week with strong assurance that it will be no later than the following weekend.

Most area lodges, cabins and hotels are open for business as usual.  However, if you are planning a trip to Ruidoso this week please contact the lodging establishment to confirm your reservation.

Some area bridges are closed so there may be short detours.  Impact will be minimal in most areas.
